This is the UK's home of official government statistics, reflecting Britain's economy, population and society at national and local level. Summary stories and detailed data releases are published here free of charge.

National Statistics Online - Local Area Statistics

Use this site to view or download local area statistics for your ward or local authority on a wide range of subjects including population, crime, health and housing.

Higher Education Statistics Agency

HESA was setup in 1993 and is the central source for higher education statistics.

Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency

The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) is Northern Ireland’s official statistics organisation.  The Agency also has responsibility for the registration of births, marriages, adoptions and deaths in Northern Ireland.
This site contains a comprehensive range of official Northern Ireland statistics as well as information about the Census and the General Register Office. 

Department of Health: Statistics and Surveys

Here you can find information related to health and social care, most of which can be viewed or downloaded for free.
UK Department for Transport: Transport Statistics

Statistics on air travel, freight, roads, cars, etc. A vast database of transport related information.

2002 Official Yearbook of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

The yearbook looks at all aspects of life in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, using maps, graphs and texts. The book is in PDF format (almost 600 pages of it!), plus separate maps and Excel spreadsheets.

Bank of England

The Statistics section includes current and historical interest rates, exchange rates, domestic and international banking statistics, monetary statistics, balance of payments and a database covering the GDP (total imports, total exports, investment, private consumption, government consumption).


Nomis is the official source of UK labour market statistics. It is a free service provided by National Statistics but you will have to register for an ID and password in order to access it.
